DC’S fans give back

From MYFOX KC

American Idol David Cook has inspired lots of fans to unite to fight cancer. Cook’s brother Adam is battling brain cancer.

This weekend, Cook will be performing with the American Idols Live Tour at the Sprint Center August 29 & 30.

On Saturday before the concert, organizers with David-Cook.org are putting together a fundraiser at the Power and Light District to benefit the American Cancer Society.

Cook Fans Unite to Fight will feature live entertainment from musician Nick Gibson, a chance to win merchandise autographed by David Cook, and other top prizes, such as two tickets to the Kansas City Chiefs home opener where David & Andrew Cook will perform the national anthem.

As an added bonus, the top two Kansas City fundraisers will win two tickets to Saturday night’s Kansas City show and two after-show party passes donated by David Cook himself. Plus, he will help you earn valuable bonus points for photographs and autographs as you try to become the top overall team in the challenge and win an additional $250 donation to the American Cancer Society on your team’s behalf.

DAVID COOK HAS MADE HIS FIRST APPEARANCE IN THE NATIONAL INQUIRER IN AN ARTICLE CALLED: IDOL WINNER BARES IT ALL!

Basically the article claims that the “American Idol winner was trying on clothes at a “high-end Hollywood boutique” and didn’t pull the dressing room drapes. It goes on to say that, “When a salesgirl went to close the curtains so he could undress ‘in private’, Cook actually refused, saying he doesn’t like being,  ‘like…uh closed in.’”

Let’s start with the first reason I believe that this is totally fabricated; it is in the National Inquirer. It is common knowledge that you could find truer information on a roll of toilet paper than in the pages of that rag. However, lets for a second assume that there is always a possibility that even the trashiest of tabloids can happen upon a true story so remote, and for all accounts too useless to be carried by any publication of a higher caliber. Even using that kind of reasoning I would bet money that it isn’t true. The quote, if you can call it that, by Cook is stated as “like…uh closed in.”

David Cook is a self proclaimed “word-nerd.” He has used words such as “Negating, Contraband, Decipher, Solemn, Regression, Estranged, Proportion, Recollect, and Contradiction” in his song writing. If this story was true, he’s have come up with something like, “I have an aversion to confinements.”

Lindsey Rose follow-up

In a follow up to my August 23rd post, there is now a video of David Cook signing autographs outside the Tampa show with little Lindsey Rose Belcher. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MIzn7wl3TyI…feature=related

The pair spent the entire day together at the show and she and her father, newsman Charles, were invited backstage after the show as well. Cook also dedicated a song to Lindsey Rose. During his set, when he sings “There Goes My Hero,” originally done by the Foo Fighters, Cook customarily dedicates the song to his older brother, Adam. For this particular performance he extended the dedication to both Adam and Lindsey.

Seeing David Cook Live

David’s set is prefaced with Lazar lights and flashes of light spelling out his name. There is no doubt who American Idol thinks is the main attraction in this show. The Room literally rocks with anticipation. No one is sitting down. Cook appears via a spotlight as he shoots up onto the stage singing “Hello” and rocking his guitar. With a pink shirt that says BAD and so much eye make-up he looks like a raccoon, he is in full star mode. He runs around the stage, he knee bends, he jumps on the stage barricades, runs back and forth, and throws picks into the crowd. When the song is over, and my heart is still racing, Cook takes a moment to thank the fans for allowing him and nine of his best friends to live out their dreams every night. He must have been listening to Jason Castro’s speech earlier. The first few cords of the winning song, “Time of My Life,” begin to play and he thanks the crowd once again for making the song so popular before slipping back into star mode. This is followed up “I Don’t want to Miss a Thing,” the love theme from Armageddon. Half way through the song he raises his hands to allow the audience to sing along and I notice that he is soaked in his own sweat. I normally don’t like sweat, I mean really who does, but standing there so confident and proud, not to mention talented, it doesn’t bother me. Neither does the fact that he’s wearing 5 times more make-up then I ever do. He is sex incarnate. It’s the only way to describe it. When the song ends, Cook again talks to the audience with gratitude. Thanking everyone for their support of him and his family and friends. He dedicates the next song to his brother Adam (whose tumor has stopped growing!) and he starts in on the Foo Fighter’s “There Goes My Hero.” If the other songs were amazing, this performance is beyond definition. You don’t just hear it, you feel it. The music goes through you, stays inside of you.  After several minutes of applause and screaming, Cook disappears backstage. Presuming he is done. The audience doesn’t stop the cheering and soon a spotlight crosses the stage as Cook reemerges singing his rendition of “Billie Jean.”  Soon, too soon it is over, and Cook leaves once again and prepares for a group finale. Cook wasn’t available for fans after the show. He was whisked away to Manhattan to go record his upcoming album straight through the night.

Rickey.org

There is nothing quite like seeing David Cook in person. I was lucky enough to experience his brilliance first hand when the American Idols Live tour was in New Jersey towards the end of July and I’ll relay that experience tomorrow or the next day. However, if you can’t get tickets to the tour, there is still a way to see it. If you go to rickey.org on the night of an American Idols Live concert at the time of the event, this wonderful man has a cellcast of the show. Basically, people call in and play it live over the internet via the call. It sounds lame but it really is fun and Rickey is such a fun goy to watch for a few hours.

David Cook and his brave fan

During top 12 week on American Idol, David Cook got an orange wristband from WTVT, Channel 13 in tampa, reporter Charley Belcher, who was on the “Idol” set to interview the 12 finalists. Belcher covers all things relating to “Idol.” The band is a tribute to Belcher’s 7-year-old daughter, Lindsey Rose, who has leukemia and has “Do Watcha Gotta Do” printed on one side and “Lindsey Rose” on the other. That phrase is the motto Lindsey and her parents have adopted to help them get through everything that lies ahead. This past week Cook and Lindsay got to meet. Here’s the video.
