Some times I wonder if David Cook said the sky was blue if there wouldn’t be backlash started because he wasn’t specific enough with the shade or the comment was insensitive to color blind fans.
I’m referring to the constant backlash Cook receives on his own website’s message board but specifically the fact that he has performed songs from his former band Midwest Kings. The band, which contained him along with Neal and Andy, usually had Andy Skib as the lead singer but obviously Andy is not performing them now. People apparently think that David Cook being the lead singer at a David Cook concert is insulting or self satisfying to do when Andy is there.
The guy fills half of his band with old friends, whom people have now become fans of because of him. If that isn’t enough he promotes their music by doing it at his shows. He’s made them stars and people think that it’s selfish for him to actually be the lead singer on his own tour?!
I doubt Andy has a problem with it; we all know how David is. I’m sure he asked him dozens of times about it and probably second guesses it when he hears that there is backlash. If he performs it at more than one show, than you know Andy doesn’t have a problem with it. Frankly, if FAMOUS singes (people who actually have a name for themselves not because of David) like Mariah and Lionel Richie love that he performs their songs his friends must be over the moon.

So ever since its debut on the “Declaration Tour” last Wednesday, people have been wondering about the lyrics to “We’re Only Honest When we Sleep.” After consulting DavidCookOfficial’s Fan forum and listening to the song myself numerous times, this is what I think the lyrics are:
You’re a broken vein
Your cracks are showing through
Your best attempts
At making nice with the world
So keep on dreaming
Cause someday soon my things that keep you happy
Will fade away
Or so I’ve heard We’re only honest when we’re sleeping
We’re lying wide awake and dreaming
Wishing that we were with someone else
This bed’s as cold as hell
When you’re lying next to meIt’s a twisted game
Of weeping not repeating
Hopes that never seem to resonate
Spin the finger of blame
It’s always on my heart
It burns on beating
While the other pulled awayWe’re only honest when we’re sleeping
We’re lying wide awake and dreaming
Wishing that we we’re with someone else
This bed’s as cold as hell
When you’re lying next to meThe ceiling paints a picture
And everything is turning our world around
Amidst the chaos in the mirror
Lies the reasoningWe’re only honest when we’re sleeping
We’re lying wide awake and dreaming
Wishing that we we’re with someone else
This bed’s as cold as hellWe’re only honest when we’re sleeping
We’re lying wide awake and dreaming
Wishing that we we’re with someone else
This bed’s as cold as hell

So it has leaked somewhere through the grapevine that apparently David Cook’s next single will be the song ”Declaration.” I guess this move would make logical sense since the current tour is called “The Declaration Tour” and it is a great song to announce a new artist (really to most of the world Cook is rather new.) IT is definitely time for “Light On” to move on as the only single off of David Cook’s self titled debut and every song is so good on the album that any choice will be a good one.
I want to stress that this is not a firsthand message from Cook so this information could be wrong but I figured I’d pass it along just in case.

Even if you can’t make it out to the Declaration Tour ,you can still own a piece of David Cook with the official Tour merchandise.
The site (David Cook Merchandise on Fanfire.com) offers all the stuff you would expect to find from a tour such as t-shirts, Key chains, Posters and hoodies along with something different, A grey Brain Cancer Awareness bracelet with David Cook inscribed on it.
An added bonus if you buy online, apparently the prices are a bit cheaper and if you don’t like it you can always return it.

I may very well be the only person who didn’t notice this the first time I watched it. Last Saturday, when David Cook performed in Biloxi Mississippi he fell down. If you watch the clip at around 2 minutes in you can see him doing what looks like a baseball slide.
So what led to this? Well if you notice around the thirty seconds mark, Cook does an awesome fountain impression after taking a sip out of his water bottle. Now it is common knowledge that spitting liquid into the air makes a singer look like an undeniable rock god but next time David, watch where you spit and walk.

We all know how Cancer is a cause near and dear to the Cook family. David’s older brother Adam’s brain tumor has been well documented and was even the inspiration of “Permanent” and led to DC’s Ribbon Tattoo.
In addition to this, Andrew Cook mentioned on his first Radio show that a friend of the family growing up, Ian Drazick died March 18, 2005 of testicular cancer. AC also informed listeners about the site his family set up. www. remember-ian. com
This site is designed to spread awareness and hope to other families fighting the same battle as Ian’s did. It also talks about how to help for anyone interested in getting involved in the cause. There is a list of what warning signs to look out for, there is a CD of Ian’s music to purchase, with proceeds going towards Testicular Cancer research and awareness, and much more.

Andrew Cook will be hosting the Miss Greater Kansas City Pageant tonight (Saturday, February 21, 2009.) The event is a preliminary to Miss Missouri/Miss America Scholarship Pageants, but more fun than that is that it is a chance to see the little brother perform. He really is a very entertaining emcee; he did the same kind of pageant in October in St. Louis.
So if you are interested in attending the event (and are in the area) it will be held at Wilson Center for the Performing Arts Center at Platte County High school located at 1501 Branch St, Platte City

Last night, David Cook and the band resumed the Declaration Tour at the University of Wisconsin at Eau Claire. It was only a 13 song set (listed below with some videos) but there were two reasons to cheer. For one thing, Cook found two fans in the audience who were celebrating their birthdays and he brought them on stage, gave them free T-Shirts and sang “Happy Birthday.” That doesn’t happen at just any show.
The other exciting thing was that the band performed a song called; “We’re Only Honest When We’re Sleeping” which came off of DC’s unreleased 2007 album that he was making independently before his entire world changed with Idol. It was the first time the song was performed but from the looks of it, it will not be the last.
